Evelien (on the left) has been sewing since childhood and becoming a pattern maker was written in the stars for her, but first, life took her on a path to become an architect. She has had a wonderful career in architecture (where she met her husband). After quite a few courses in sewing and pattern making, she went on to publish a series of very successful sewing books. Evelien also worked for several years at the renowned Belgian sewing magazine 'La Maison Victor' as a designer/pattern maker for women's wear.
She lives with her husband and three children in West Flanders.

Britt (on the right) chose specialised fashion training from an early age and also took 'fashion design' courses at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. She went on to earn a degree in journalism. Britt collaborated on the founding of the sewing magazine 'La Maison Victor' in 2013 and was editor-in-chief for many years until she joined the design team and started developing men's and children's patterns in 2020. Together, Evelien en Britt wrote ‘De Grote Naaigids’ (The Big Sewing Guide) for La Maison Victor, published by Lannoo in 2021.
Britt is a mom of two, partner of one, and lives in Antwerp.

Back in the day, the arrival of La Maison Victor brought about a significant modernisation of the sewing scene. Unfortunately at the end of 2022, the sewing magazine ceased to exist.

BUT! In 2023 these two creative women are rekindling their passion, drive and expertise and pouring it into a new sewing brand: NOTCHES.

This time around in the shape of an even more contemporary online platform with digital sewing patterns. All beautifully designed in a distinctive style, with a clear vision and an idealistic message.

“Notches is our way of taking steps towards a better, healthier world. We love fashion, but realise that the fashion industry is one of the most polluting sectors. That is why we offer this alternative.

For us, sewing is more than a hobby, it's a way to get out of the fast fashion throwaway mentality. Because by making clothes yourself you will finish them better, making them last longer. And you’ll take better care of them, because you know how much time and effort you put into it.

With Notches we now even go a step further. Because it's necessary.

By offering digital patterns, no more paper needs to be printed than necessary. And by using deadstock fabrics* we avoid newly produced fabrics as much as possible. We use quality designer fabrics from brands that have fabric surpluses. That way they don't end up as trash, and they still have a use.

With this mindset, being a home-sewist is turning into a lifestyle, a way to live life more consciously, to create more mindfully and slow down in this hectic life. Give yourself permission for that daily, weekly or monthly moment you so desperately crave for.

Moreover, as a home-sewist you have the freedom to create a wardrobe that is made for your body and fully reflects your personality regardless of any trends and seasonal ‘must haves’. Your true beauty only comes out when you can be completely yourself, and when you can show on the outside who's on the inside."
